The April 2012 Signs By Benchmark newsletter features two recent collaborations – one with QQP Signs (a division of Midstates Inc. Print & Media Solutions), the other with Scenic Sign (Fargo, N.D.)

The faux brick finish on the sign created for QQP Signs not only matched original brick on the nearby building, but served as a classic frame for reverse lit channel letters and business logo.

The collaboration with Scenic Sign called for a very large sign top that was installed as the crowning component on a unique, triangular shaped pylon sign.

Designed as the capping glory for a triangular shaped pylon sign, two sides of the topper measure 12′ 6 5/16″ while the third side measures 18′ 7 7/8″. The stippled finish was designed to match the finish and color of the sign cabinet.

Monument Sign’s Reverse Lit Channel Letters & Logo Say It All

When an Aberdeen, S.D. business needed new signage, they turned to a local company: QQP Signs (a division of Midstates Inc. Print & Media Solutions). Once the custom monument sign design was finalized and approved, QQP Signs gave Signs By Benchmark a call.

Having previously worked with Signs By Benchmark, the QQP team knew that creating a sign featuring reverse lit channel letters and logo while matching original brick fit well within Signs By Benchmark’s creative niche.

The double-sided 8′ 5 3/4″ high x 5′ 7 3/16″ wide x 32 1/2″ deep monument features a two color stucco finish and faux brick columns and base to match brick of the existing building.

The Signs By Benchmark team installed Gemini letters on the lower sign face. They then manufactured mounting points on the upper face to accommodate reverse lit channel letters and a logo.

Once the sign arrived at QQP Signs, its team installed electrical wiring within the engineered space, then mounted the channel letters and logo. The result is a neat, modern sign that not only catches the eye during daylight or night time hours, but no doubt helps put a smile on every viewer’s face.

“Installation was a snap,” said Patrick King of QQP Signs. “It took about 30 minutes. And the brick reproduction is absolutely phenomenal. You can’t tell the faux brick from the real. The color matching is priceless.”

The March Signs By Benchmark newsletter features a custom monument sign manufactured in collaboration with Best Buy Signs of Omaha, Nebraska.

The sign was designed by Best Buy Signs to conform to city ordinances that required the sign to match existing surroundings. They took the process one step further by matching the sign to the existing building brick by taking advantage of Signs By Benchmark’s expertise at creating a highly realistic faux brick finish for the monument.

Sign’s Faux Finish Matches Existing Building Brick

In collaboration with Best Buy Signs of Omaha, Nebraska, Signs By Benchmark recently created a custom monument sign to match existing brick elements of the nearby building it would advertise. Working from precise measurements, matching paint chips and high quality digital photos, the Signs By Benchmark team once again proved their talent for creating high quality faux finishes.

The monument was designed by Best Buy Signs in accordance with Omaha city ordinances that require the sign to match existing surroundings. Because the building is a multi-tenant property, space had to be created in the sign for advertising multiple tenants.

All sign components were CNC cut or handcrafted to meet design specifications. Once assembled, the entire sign was sealed into a solid unit with Signs By Benchmark’s signature hard coat that ensures long lasting durability.

Measuring 14′ 1 1/8″ high x 8′ 2 1/2″ wide x 27″ deep, the sign has no problem standing above the crowd. Its classic faux brick base and column provide a striking contrast to the sign body’s one-color acrylic stucco finish.

Installation of the lightweight cellular plastic sign was a breeze. Using pick points installed by Signs By Benchmark, the Best Buy Signs installation team quickly lowered the monument over poles previously installed according to placement specifications provided by Signs By Benchmark.

“It took longer to get the sign out of the truck and unwrapped than it did to install it,” said Justin Brown of Best Buy Signs. “Signs By Benchmark’s installation process is very user-friendly – and when they give on center measurements, they’re accurate – every time.”

The Best Buy team installed Gemini letters after the sign was installed and continue to install lettering on behalf of tenants. As tenants change, the lettering is simply pulled out and the small mounting hole filled with a dab of caulk then touched up with the stucco touch-up kit sent with every Signs By Benchmark sign.

20′ Halo Lit Monument Sign Lights Way to Regional College

Signs By Benchmark recently enjoyed another successful collaboration with Indigo Signworks(Fargo, N.D.) to create a sign of monumental proportions. Installed on the campus of Lake Region State College in Devil’s Lake, N.D., the custom exterior sign has no trouble catching the eye – in daylight or dark.

Featuring halo (reverse-lit) channel letters, the 12′ high x 20′ 2″ wide x 3′ 4″ deep double-sided monument features acrylic stucco finish and faux split stone handcrafted by Signs By Benchmark artisans. Designed by Indigo Signworks, the custom sign was based on Signs By Benchmark’s standard model #2.

“The customer wanted a unique, professional look,” said Jerry Nelson of Indigo Signworks. “The sign fulfills that need and also our intent to fit in with existing ground monuments in the area – only in a much larger size.”

Indigo Signworks picked up the sign from the Signs By Benchmark plant in Watertown, S.D., then installed the channel letters in their shop.

“Signs By Benchmark created the perfect design for installing wiring for the halo lit letters,” said Nelson.

Sign installation was quick and simple. Working from exact placement dimensions provided by Signs By Benchmark, the Indigo team had poured the foundation some weeks earlier. The monument was easily craned over the poles using pick points that Signs By Benchmark had installed.

As with all Signs By Benchmark signs and sign accents, the colossal monument was created from cellular plastic (EPS expanded polystyrene). All parts were either CNC cut or hand carved. Once assembled, the entire sign was encapsulated in Signs By Benchmark’s signature hard coat to ensure long-lasting durability

Faux Stone Columns Encase Embossed Community Logo in Monument Welcome Sign

The Signs By Benchmark team has become expert at creating hand-crafted finishes such as faux stone for two custom monument signs manufactured for Brushmarks Signs of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. But the design offered another opportunity – the creation of an embossed logo for the community of Dilworth, Minnesota.

Designed to enhance community entrances while welcoming visitors, the single-sided 8′ high x 12′ 9″ wide x 33″ deep signs present a stately, modern appearance. Faux stacked stone columns enclose the signs, showcasing the lettering and steam engine logo.

CNC cut from cellular plastic (EPS expanded polystyrene), the letters and logo were coated directly into the sign face for strength and durability. The three-color stucco finish compliments the faux stone while achieving the “pop” factor that characterizes good signage.

The January 2012 Signs By Benchmark newsletter features a large custom exterior monument sign designed to match interior signage previously created by Signs By Benchmark. The double-sided 14′ wide x 13′ 6″ high x 29″ deep sign features a 2-color acrylic stucco finish, copy coated directly into the sign face and space for stud-mounted tenant panels.

Also featured is an example of the architectural accents the team is often called upon to create – mainly due to the design flexibility of their cellular plastic (EPS expanded polystyrene foam) medium. The result of this project was an everyday building entrance transformed by the elegance of barrel vaulting and decorative molding.

Custom Exterior Monument to Match Existing Interior Signage

Not long ago, we created an interior wall-mount sign that was installed in a Clear Lake, S.D. business. To complete signage plans and create a uniform look for the business, we recently collaborated with Elite Signs & Graphix of Watertown, S.D. to create a custom exterior monument designed to match the interior sign.

The lightweight, 14′ wide x 13′ 6″ high x 29″ deep double-sided monument was created from cellular plastic then sealed with Signs By Benchmark’s signature hard coat for long-lasting durability that resists extreme weather conditions while eliminating rust and rot.

Featuring two-color acrylic stucco finish, copy coated directly into the sign face, and space for stud-mounted tenant panels, the stately monument has no problem standing out on the gently curving prairie.

For ease of Installation, pick points were installed on the sign, allowing it to be easily craned into place over the poles. The operation was simple and quick: installation took only one hour.
